Prof. Dr. Katja Schenke-Layland

Current projects:

Drive ESCs towards the cardiac linage and further into mature cardiac cell types such as left/right ventricular and atrial cardiomyocytes (CM) or pacemaker cells. Furthermore: The generation of a 3D in vitro model for the elucidation of cardiac cell fate decisions utilizing 3D substrates, defined ECM proteins, and a bioreactor system.

Research focus and interests:

The Schenke-Layland Lab focuses on the development of non-destructive diagnostic imaging tools to discover and validate therapeutic candidates and diagnose disease, as well as the translation of human development into clinically relevant biomaterials and regenerative therapies. The current research focus: Tissue Engineering, optics, biomaterials and development.
