Prof. Dr. Ludger Schöls

Current projects:

  • Differentiation of iPS cells into patient specific neurons, “Brainoids” and hepatocytes
  • Screen for compounds ameliorating the load of neurotoxic metabolites
  • Explore potential therapeutic approaches by addressing affected pathways

Clinical neurogenetics:

  • Ataxia – Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia – Motor neuron disease and frontotemporal dementia
  • Leukodystrophies in adulthood
  • Leukodystrophies in adulthood – Center for rare neurological diseases (Huntington disease, mitochondriopathies, etc.)

Research focus:

Modelling neurogenetic diseases using induced pluripotent stem cells and its differentiation into neurons which are genetically identical to our patients.
